High Chair Remake

I got this high chair a long time ago, I don't think it was very old and but I liked it. It was missing the tray but I thought I could resell it "as is" and someone would be interested in it for display. A nice doll or teddy bear I was thinking but I guess I was the only one that thought that.  The chair sat there for 2 years no nibbles so I decided that I would take it home and give it a make-over.

I decided to go all out and went through my stash of goods to see what I could partner up with this great little chair and give it a chance to be a part of modern decor but keep a trace of the vintage charm.

I attached a found mirror and some shutters to the top and an old door top to the chair handles.  Next I attached some boards so I could give it drawers.  It is a very one of a kind piece and it sold right away.  It makes a nice display piece and doesn't take up much room.

I added a tin tile I had to the back as a drawer stop and accent.  I painted the whole thing white and sanded it up so it looked worn.  Who can figure, I put a pile of stuff out in the middle of the room and just start hooking it all together and then sell it. What fun. I am thankful that there are people that see things as I do and expand there minds to decorate with the unusual.

Folk Art Cupboard

Well I am going way back to last year in November to post projects that I finished and never got to put on my blog.  I found three of these old unusual shelves in a free pile (I haven't changed since you last heard from me, free is my favorite along with 2.98)  I liked how whoever made these used boards for the shelves that had holes drilled in them.  The holes are not commercially drilled because they are not uniform and you can see were the drill bit jumped on occasion.  All the better for me I love the things that aren't the norm and have flaws that generate character.

I really didn't know what I wanted to do with the units until one morning I decided they should always be together and never separated.  I got out my trusty saw and leveled on of the shelves so I could mount it on the top of another shelf.  Then I assembled the third shelf to use the boards to create the doors.

In this picture you can see that I bolted one shelf to another, I love to attach things together to make a new inspired piece that never would have been in existence had I not decided to rescue it.

Here is the finished project. I painted it old white and stenciled the doors. I also added top shelf I had lying around to give it a bit more height.  I think that it came out nice, I brought it to the shop to sell and listed it as  a "Folk Art Cupboard" and it sold almost immediately.

Its good to be back posting again and sharing all the things that I love to do.  I hope to post several things today and get caught up.  I do have a board on Pinterest that has all my past projects as well so if you want to see more of what I do jump on over there and take a look!  Blessings, Cat.

Sign of the Times

I must hear this saying 10 times a day! I had so many requests to make this sign over and over again. So if you are going to sell at any fairs this year be sure and make a few-any style will do.  This particular one is painted on a door panel.  Door panels make great signs! Garage sales are super places to pick them up. People update their kitchens all the time by simply changing the doors on their cabinets and sell the old ones for as little as .50 a piece.  I have quite a collection of doors,  I buy them and stand them in a corner where I can see them (you never know when inspiration will hit! and they work for some many things.  Well it is what it is and I guess that means I must get back to work if I am ever to get done. Have a wonderful day and hug someone you love!

Painted Goods

Here is a sign I made from some scraps in my work room.  I love the subway art look.  I nailed some wooden strips on the back to hold them together and put some d-ring hangers on the back too.

I bought this shabby little make-do stool from a tag sale several years ago that needed the legs reattached. Whoever made it drove 4 nails into each hole to hold it instead of using one large screw. You use what you have -my motto too,  so I was not surprised.  The legs had gotten a little shaky over the years so it needed to be secured and repainted.  I set my surround sound speaker on this and now I don't have to worry that it is going to topple over.  I sacrifice for style personally -but my family well I must make some concessions now and then so they don't think I am totally crazy, a little crazy is good, too crazy and well they might not let me out of the house and I do love to treasure hunt!

This cute little handmade milking stool was painted brown and needed some TLC. I love the color now, it is one that I mixed up in my shop and use frequently as you know if you read my posts.  Vintage handmade things are so cool because whatever was laying around in the work shop became something useful. Going green wasn't an option years ago it was a way of life.

I saw a tote on Pinterest painted with a drawer pull like this one. I pinned it and vowed to make one like it and here it is. I paid 3.99 for this piece unfinished. Someone handmade it probably in shop class. I love shop class projects they are made with such care and so solid after all they are being graded on the outcome. I sure am glad people don't grade my work, hopefully I would pass the test!

I already posted my blue lazy Susan that is by the way upside down in the this picture (told you I am just a wee bit crazy-harmless though).  The tote you have seen too but I liked the grouping with the two new signs I made.  I already sold one of the "Imagine" signs, the gal snapped it up as soon as I set in down. Love that reaction!

Here is one last shot of the tote. I love the back round it reminds me of something out of Country Living. It was my first week to work outside and I guess I got  carried away in the moment, thank you for stopping by for a visit. Come back again I have some new things to post and stories to share!

One Summer's Day

Wow, am I joining the new millenium or what? My own blog. I just am so excited to finally set this up! In the future I plan to post more pictures of my primitive folk art and of course give a peak into my simple life. I have been making primitive art for over 25 years and still love to mix it with found items from the past.

This garden table I made today. I got up and thought what a fine summer day it was and decided to get my tools and imagination out. I perused through my stash of vintage and came up with this creation. It consists of an old door, some bed posts, a green shelf, and some misc. wood pieces. I really didn't spend any time planning it out it all just flowed together like the pieces were meant to be together. Inspiration is such a wonderful thing. To the left of the door is a old (old is always the key here) drawer I made into a prim shelf gathering. It has ticking curtains strung on rusty wire and jute tie backs that are fixed to an old rusty nail. I found the bottles in front of the piece and made vintage looking tags for them and if you didn't know better you might think this piece was from the early days....
Tonight is going to be a very special night. On Fridays my husband Jeff and I help out at a church that has the Community Recovery program. There are over 15 different support groups that deal with anything from addiction to emotions. We are group leaders for the Divorce Care class. What a great way to spend the evening. Here is a link to the site where more information is available. Well off to get ready, love and peace to all who enter and when I return I will have a special recipe to share. Cat
