Oh For the Red White and Blue

I have always loved our flag.  As of late there have been things on Facebook where people are disrespecting our flag. Today is Memorial Day and we honor all those who gave their lives so our flag still can fly. Our flag symbolizes our freedom and I find it disturbing that some want to ban it from public places or destroy it. I for one will always honor it and what it stands for.

This nice sturdy chair is one from the 70's colonial movement. I bought it for 3.00 and painted it in a patriotic theme.

This is an old rood slate I painted up.  They are nice hang on a porch.

This handmade bench was a bit dated when I bought it. It needed a bit of repair but I just wanted to give it another chance to be loved.

I really love patriotic stuff....did I say that already?  Well I do!  This box is a new design that I made and really liked.

My son made this chair and gave it to me. It sat outside during the winter and got a bit weathered.  I decided to give it a makeover and painted it up in red, white, and blue.  I got it done just in time for the fourth of July 2014.

I made this table from a cupboard door and a really old saw horse.  I painted "Liberty Inn 1776" on the bottom rail.

This bench was really worn out so I had to re-place to top.  I painted up the flag design and stenciled on the words PEACE HOPE BELIEVE TRUTH & IMAGINE.

This started with an old wood box I had sitting around.  I got some table legs out of my stash and painted it up.  A young girl bought it to store some of her things in.  I was proud that a youngster found the flag design appealing and she just had to have it.

Child size "Liberty" rocker.

Antique baby buggy- This baby buggy was in bad shape when I bought it.  I replaced the body of it with an old wooden box and then painted it.

I found this old rusty painted lamp at a thrift store and brought it home.. I took the shade and used some Modge Podge to attach some patriotic fabric.

Door, drawer, and Table Upcycle

Here are some miscellaneous parts from my stash.  A drawer, a cupboard door. and a small table. Sorry for the poor picture, maybe this year I will finally learn to use my camera! It could happen!

I put them all together and painted the piece white with French Country designs.  I have made several of these chest tables and they sell very well.  They double as a table and a storage piece.

Paris Projects

I started out with just a plain old black night stand.I

I gave it a coat of white paint and glazed it with a dark brown.

I found these designs on The Graphics Fairy and traced them onto the top. I hand painted them in about twenty minutes, it really doesn't take long to do at all.

This is just a little hand made box I had and painted.

Old Barn Box

I quite often have the opportunity to pick up primitives very cheap at the market where I have my booth.  They have auctions every Friday night and I go Saturday morning and have the exclusive privilege of buying the left-overs.  I found this old barn box out in their yard one bright Saturday morning and knew that it needed a lot of work but I just couldn't resist it.  I paid my 5.00 and loaded in the car. (Only after I swept the chicken nest out of the bottom).
This is the bottom.....see the holes I had my work cut out for me!
I ended up replacing the board on top because it was so bad but I used re-claimed lumber to do it.
I mended the major holes with sheet metal and screws.  I worked on that for at least an hour. Most people would have given up and built a new box, not me I just kept going........
I had this table that I used to make the legs.  I turned it over and unscrewed the top portion and then bolted the box on to the table for the legs.

Here is the finished product.  I forgot to take a picture of it at home so sorry about the tag hanging from the front of it, it sold already, yeah old barn box you will be loved for years to come!
I screwed the license plates to the top because I always wanted to make something using them.

I painted the sides, front, and back in this design.  I don't know what the new owner is going to do with this old box but I hope they give it as much love as I have!

Painted Stuff

I love old drawers that came from old sewing machine cabinets.  I bought a ton of them several years ago and these are the last of them.  They were cut apart from the original cabinet and I just gave them a top and some paint.
This is a nice old table I bought for 2 bucks and painted blue. I decided to leave the folding chairs as they were because they had some great lettering on them.  I painted the basket antique white and filled it with dried hydrangeas.
This is another one of my garden chairs. I bought four of them this is number three, one left to go.  I just decorate them with whatever I grab out of my stash boxes.  I love the blue twig heart planter I attached to the top.

Gift Box Remake

Every year at Christmas time people give gifts that come in wooden boxes.  Sometimes they are filled with fancy teas or coffees.  I found a discarded wooden gift box for 2.99 at GW one day with a drawer and everything! I painted it off white and grunged it up with some dark brown glaze.

I added some graphics that I found on The Graphics Fairy.  I used Citra Solv to transfer them onto the drawer.  I think the blue knob sets off the whole piece nicely.   Christmas is 9 months away and I can't wait that long for more boxes so I guess in the mean while I will watch at garage sales for some more cast aways that held holiday treasure!
