Grey the new black

Another painted potato bin. Nothing special just a simple paint job.

I went to the thrift store the other day and found this industrial round container. I loved the handles and the way the metal band snapped on.  I put legs on it to make it into table.  The fabric was rather pricey it is by Tim Holtz, from Jo Ann Fabrics 15.99 a yard! It was worth it though.

I didn't do too much to this rack. Just a bit of paint. Someone bought it so it all turned out well.

I painted this table and really loved how it came out. I don't like everything I paint but this table I really liked.  After I delivered it to my booth I got a call from the shop asking me to paint the top over because it didn't match the décor of a lady who was interested in it.  I said no not possible if she likes beach décor then go to Hobby Lobby they must have something from China she would like....not really. I may have thought that but I didn't verbalize it out loud  I did sell the table an hour later for full price to another person with good taste!

Junk angels, they watch over the ones who repurpose junk and save things from the landfills.

I found this box at a store and brought it home to paint.  I thought it looked like a book so I painted it to look like a Jane Austen book cover.

There are always lots of these cute picnic baskets to buy at flea markets.  I wanted to paint this one different than the usual ones I paint.  So I thought why not a bee?  A Queen Bee!  Everyone knows a pesky bee can be a royal pain! lol

Vintage Toboggan Table

My husband is a saint, when he sees a freebie project he still brings them home to me. He came home one day with this nice old toboggan and what a prize it was.  I ended up cutting it down a bit because it was way too long and the end was broken off a little.  No worry me and my trusty saw took care of that in no time.  I wanted to make a nice coffee type table out of it. I could just picture it in a cabin house all cozy where someone would put their hot chocolate and knitting on top of it.  So I rummaged around my stash and found this nice old coffin stand I bought several years ago. What a match, they fit perfectly.  I stained the base with some black MinWax water base stain and then stained right over the toboggan as well. I love how it aged it to perfection.  It is a solid little piece that I hope ends up in some rustic cabin or even on a front porch.  I never get sick of vintage, second chance art is so rewarding!

Primitive Ladder Shelf

I had three primitive ladders that were setting around and thought what to do with them?  I wanted to make a shelf but I was limited by my lack of wood for the shelves.  I found three wall shelves and decided that they would be perfect to use leaving only the top shelf to provide for.  I had a wire basket that I found at an estate sale last summer and sure enough it fit perfectly. I just had to spray paint it black because it was an ugly white.  I had a nice decorative piece I tacked to the top to add some flair and there you have it.  It is a nice skinny tall shelf that could hold books, collectibles, or whatever your heart desires.  So in the process I used up some pieces that have been collecting dust and created a useful shelf.

No Befores of Afters

These are some miscellaneous pictures of projects that I did not take any "Before" pictures of . I thought they were still interesting enough to post and I will tell you what I did to each to achieve the finished product.
This is a wooden truck I found for 2.00 at a flea market. It didn't have all of its wheels and I just happened to have a set of four that fit perfectly. Fate is a wonderful creature.

Here is a pair of wooden skis I bought for a dollar at an auction I painted them like barn wood and stenciled on the phrase "Winter Wonderland".

This is a small stand that I picked up at a garage sale for a dollar.  I don't even know what it was for but I thought it had some charm.  I added the "Prim Garden" sign and painted it up.  I had to shore it up a bit as well. I already sold it so someone knew exactly what it was for......lol...
This picture is a copy of an old print I found at an estate sale.  I scanned it into my computer and printed it out on some scrap book paper that was old world script.  I then modge podged it onto an old table top I had in my stash. I love the saying!

This old cupboard I bought for 2.00 at a thrift store.  The print of the girl and cat I bought at an estate sale years ago for 5.00 It was badly wrinkled and some of the color missing.  So I re-habbed it and mounted it to inside a picture frame to the cupboard door.  I added the back piece on the top and the legs on the bottom. I love it and finally found a resting place for my beloved print.

Here are some more of my "Red Neck" wine glasses.  Also a plate mounted on a candle holder with a glass dome.  All have been attached with E-6000 glue. It is the best glue ever!
This is a wooden candle holder with three coffee mugs attached.  I painted them with "Brilliant Silver" spray paint and added a little glitter in place for some bling.
Lastly I bought these two metal boxes at a garage sale for .75 each and spray painted them white.  I them added a picture to each via Modge Podge.   A great way to store all those things you have piled up on your counter-top!

Old Scale

I had this old rusty worn scale and tried to sell it as it was because I thought it was awesome. But alas no one was interested in it as it was.  My policy is to try to leave things as they are unless no one wants to claim them then I step in and give them a second chance to be loved.

I merely mounted a metal dish to the top of the scale that I painted black so that it would stand out and accent the rusty goodness of the scale. I was perfectly happy with the rust and I thought that the bowl would give it a utilitarian purpose and would be a super decorator piece.

You can see that I found many uses for the rusty old scale and am so pleased that it now has a purpose!

More Painted Stuff

Do you remember the bathroom caddies from the 90's that you saw at every craft show you went to.  Usually they were just stained and had calico fabric curtains.   I gave this one a more updated look by painting is Grey and glazing it in dark brown.  I made the curtain lace to top off the new shabby chic look.

These corbels were painted an awful yellowish tan and had a high sheen finish.  I painted them first in primer grey and then painted them white and glazed them.  They make super book ends or accent pieces on a  mantle.  They are hand made and full of character, I love the crown top on the one pair.

Vintage Catch All

I went to an estate sale and found these rounded sewing drawers. I immediately knew what I would do with them if I could buy them.  The sellers had some things that weren't for sale and of course those where the things I wanted so I took a deep breath and asked the seller if they were up for grabs.  Gladly she told me I could have all three for 5.00.  Joy!  I had an old door panel that I want to mount them to and then I had this wood cut out Etc. that I was to attach to the top.  I got to the point where the word etc. was to be attached and it broke in two pieces ......rats!  So I left the project over night and figured I would come up with something.  Light bulb!  I got it !  I had some coasters that were wood and cork and thought ....paint them so they sort of look like type writer keys and paint the letters on them!!!!!!!Yeah thank you God for my imagination!

I painted the piece white and glazed it with brown to get the worn and antiqued look. I can just picture it full of mail and miscellaneous stuff.

A Dollar Drawer

Sorry about the less than perfect pictures and the no before and afters. I had a rough week this week at my grown-up job and as I mentioned before I am looking for the cord for my camera so I recharge it.....what to do. I need a keeper so I can paint more. I can dream.

This started out a drawer I bought at a yard sale for a dollar.  Then I found this little bench type stool at sale for two bucks. I put them together to make a neat little table or even a child's desk either would work.

This is my little creation shown as a desk with my anitque child's chair and my dolly I made from a Gail Wilson doll pattern.

Vintage Skates

I remember spending a lot of time in the summer roller skating down the sidewalks in Grand Rapids.  I wore my skate key around my neck on an old shoe string, those were the days!  We didn't have fancy things to play with but what we did have was awesome !!!!!  So I took some old skates that I just couldn't seem to sell and decided to give them some "Bling"!  I painted them pink and then took some Modge Podge and glitter and Girlied them up!   Sparkle makes everything better don't you agree?
